Here are a few types of common cable end fittings:
Crimp Terminals/Connectors - These attach to the cut end of a cable using a specialized crimping tool. Different styles are available depending on the cable type and connection needed. Some common types include ring, spade, fork, barrel connectors.
Solder Sleeves/Lug Terminals - Similar to crimp terminals but instead of crimping, the cable end is inserted into a hollow lug or sleeve that is then soldered in place. Commonly used for tin soldered electrical connections.
Butt Splices - Crimp or heat shrink style fittings that join the cut ends of two cables together without requiring individual cable end processing. Helpful for repairs or adding lengths together.
Threaded Stud Terminals - Machined metal fittings with threaded ends for securing to screw-type connection points like studs, switches, terminals on equipment. The cable inserts and is secured by a nut.
Pin/Socket Terminals - Used for quick disconnect applications. The cable fitting inserts into a female socket that connects to a male pin terminal on the mating cable or equipment side.
Rings/Spade Lugs - Bent or shaped metal fittings at the end of a cable for connecting to binding posts, terminals, fuse blocks and more. Common styles include ring, spade, eyelet, fork.
Connector Plugs - Plastic or metal housings that accept a prepared cable end for quick assembly connectors, usually by crimping a cap or collar in place.
